Meeting and discussion of the presentation of the first EITI National Report of Armenia took place in Vardenis and Vanadzor

Within the framework of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative of the Republic of Armenia, meetings and discussions on the presentation of the first EITI National Report took place on May 6 and 7 in Vardenis and Vanadzor.

During the meetings, the EITI Secretariat in Armenia under the Prime Minister’s Office and the representatives from government, the mining industry and civil society of the EITI Multi-stakeholder Group presented the initiative to the representatives of provinces and municipalities, civil society and mining companies, with the first report released in 2019, talked about the data available through the report, subsoil permits, contracts for metal ore extraction companies, revenues from the community of metal mining, and social obligations to companies.

It was also discussed the data available through the EITI official website and online reporting platform, ongoing work to identify beneficial owners, as well as other sectoral issues.

The EITI awareness campaigns are ongoing and aim to create more transparent and accountable state and business systems, as well as to promote public dialogue, thereby guaranteeing mutual understanding between the stakeholders.

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a global standard that promotes open and accountable management of natural resources. The Republic of Armenia is considered a candidate country for the EITI since March 2017. In January 2019 the first National Report of Armenia was published.The process of disclosure of beneficial owners in Armenia has started in the framework of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

Regional meetings were organized within the framework of the project "Support the implementation of the Global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine" implemented by German Development Cooperation via Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The project is implemented under the umbrella of the GIZ Eastern Partnership Regional Fund for Public Administration Reform, on behalf of the German Government.
