The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and the First National Report were Introduced to YSU Students and Lecturers

Today, on February 19, discussion meeting on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in the Republic of Armenia was held at Yerevan State University. A group of lecturers, representatives of professorial staff and students from the faculties of Geology and Geography, Ecology and Environmental Protection, Economics, Journalism, as well as departments of Public Administration and Political Science of YSU participated in the discussion meeting.

Head of the EITI National Secretariat Lilia Shushanyan, EITI Experts Lusine Tovmasyan and Anahit Arustamyan, member of the MSG mining companies and investors, General Manager of the “Geomining” LLC Vahe Vardanyan and member of the MSG Civil Society, Associate Professor at the Chair of Prospecting and Exploration of Mineral Deposits of Yerevan State University Harutyun Movsisyan presented the EITI and the EITI implementation process in Armenia to YSU students and lecturers.

The first EITI National Report was presented with the focus on information on the payments from the metal mining companies to state and community budgets and revenues received by the government, as well as information on reserves, volumes and value of production, export and local sales by commodity in the metal mining industry. They presented that some data are also available through online reporting system on the official website and showed the way of access. Several sector related issues were discussed during the question-and- answer session.
